Part of the fun of the entertainment business is a feeling of frivolity and spontaneity that sets working in Hollywood apart from other financial endeavors. Add to that the observation that most people drawn to show biz are less interested in the “business” and more interested in the “show.” Sometimes this prevailing mindset results in regretful collaborations and “partnerships” that could have benefited from a more thoughtful, reasonable approach versus decisions that are often made on the fly, with little consideration of the long- term consequences of partnering. There are different kinds of partnerships in Hollywood; I discuss the most common ones here and reveal what you should consider before agreeing to a pact with anyone, no matter how aligned your taste, creativity and work-discipline appear to be. Partnerships can be golden; but they can also cost you a fortune if you’re not careful.
